Cosmetic Peptide MOQ: What a Minimum Order Really Means
No MOQ rarely means no minimum spend. What actually sets the floor on a peptide order — kits, freight and label runs — and how to read a supplier's answer.
“No MOQ” is one of the most common phrases in a peptide supplier's reply, and one of the least precise. It usually means there is no formal minimum order quantity. It rarely means the order can be any size you like once freight and packaging are counted.
What actually sets the floor
| Constraint | Where it comes from | Practical effect |
|---|---|---|
| Kit size | Vials are packed 10 to a kit | The real minimum is often one kit, not one vial |
| Freight minimum | Couriers charge by weight band | Below a certain weight you pay the same as a heavier parcel |
| Label runs | Custom labels are printed in batches | Private label can carry a higher minimum than the product |
| Payment fees | Fixed cost per transfer | Small orders lose a larger share to fees |
So “no MOQ” and “one kit” are usually the same statement. The useful question is not “what is your MOQ” but “what is the smallest order you will ship, and what does freight cost at that size?”
How to read a supplier's answer
- “No MOQ” — no formal minimum; kit and freight still apply.
- “MOQ 1 kit” — the floor is packaging, not policy. Usually the honest answer.
- “MOQ 100 kits” — a real production minimum, about batch planning rather than willingness.
A supplier giving the second answer is more useful than one giving the first, because it tells you what actually constrains the order.
When a small first order is the right call
For a new ingredient, order the smallest quantity that lets you run a real test in your base: one kit plus the documentation pack. The extra cost per unit is the price of finding out early that the material does not behave in your formula — cheaper than discovering it after a production batch.
When to buy larger than you need
Rarely. Lyophilised peptides degrade with time, moisture and heat. A large buffer stock converts a supply problem into a stability problem. The exceptions are fixed annual demand with a supplier who has a documented shelf life on the lot you are holding.
Private label changes the arithmetic
The minimum on a custom-labelled vial is usually set by the label print run rather than the peptide. If you are launching, ask separately: what is the minimum for the material, and what is the minimum for a custom label? They are frequently different, and the label minimum is usually the larger.
Frequently asked questions
Does 'no MOQ' mean I can order one vial?
Rarely. Vials are packed in kits of ten and couriers charge by weight band, so the practical minimum is usually one kit.
What is a typical minimum for cosmetic peptides?
Most suppliers ship from one kit. Production minimums appear when you add custom labelling, because the label print run sets the floor.
Why is private label MOQ higher than product MOQ?
Labels are printed in runs. The material minimum and the label minimum are separate numbers, and the label one is usually larger.
Is it cheaper per unit to order more?
Usually, through volume tiers and freight. But holding excess material carries a stability cost that often outweighs the saving.
What should a first order include?
One kit, the documentation pack, and enough material to test in your own base at your own pH.
